Abstract

This community service activity was motivated by the low utilization of yard land in Kambingan Village, Cerme District, Gresik Regency, which has tended to be left empty or only planted with non-productive crops. In fact, yards have great potential to strengthen food security at the household level. This service aims to optimize the land through the introduction of high-value commodities, namely Carolina Reaper chili (Capsicum chinense), Cavendish banana (Musa acuminata 'Cavendish'), and green grass jelly (Cyclea barbata Miers). The implementation method used a participatory approach that included theoretical counseling sessions, technical cultivation training, seed distribution, and intensive field mentoring for three months to 35 target families. The results of the activity showed significant achievements, where there was an increase in participants' knowledge scores of 78% based on the results of the pre-test and post-test. In addition, all participants (100%) have successfully implemented the planting of the three commodities with a seedling survival rate of 92% to 100%. This activity proves that yard crop diversification is not only effective in increasing family food availability independently, but also serves as a strategic foundation in opening up additional economic opportunities for villagers through superior horticultural commodities.
