Semar comes from Javanese and is a symbol of devotion and wisdom portrayed by one of the punakawans in the puppet show. The symbol of devotion and wisdom Semar teaches is how to provide care and advice with humility and sincere devotion and provides the right direction of life following morality. This selfless devotion and wisdom inspired the establishment of Semar: Journal of Community Service. This journal also contains reviews of scientific research and its applications, criticism or comments on research / service in direct contact with the community, and the results of applied research that are downstream for community / community-based utilization. This journal was founded by the Faculty of Engineering, Bhayangkara University, Surabaya. Nevertheless, the fields of science in the Community Service scheme include but are not limited to Engineering, Social, Politics, Communication, Business and Economics, Science, Law, Education, Health, Sports, Language, and Arts.

Volume 1, Issue 2 of the 2025 Edition highlights the outcomes of Community Service activities in the fields of technology, economics, and health.
